Poetry Corner
Hi Friend,
Welcome to The Insider Creative Poetry Corner. Every now and then, I’ll post poems I love. Poems that have helped me when I’m feeling sad or happy or confused or angry or meditative or excited - basically, all the feelings.
I love this poem because it describes so gently the power of hope. We’ve all had those terrifying moments in our lives when we lose sight of hope, but it is always there. It reminds me of Amanda Gorman’s epic poem, The Hill We Climb. If we live with hope, we live with light and, ‘there is always light, ‘if only we’re brave enough to see it.’
hope is the thing with feathers
“Hope” is the thing with feathers -
That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all -
And sweetest - in the Gale - is heard -
And sore must be the storm -
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm -
I’ve heard it in the chillest land -
And on the strangest Sea -
Yet - never - in Extremity,
It asked a crumb - of me.
By Emily Dickinson
My kids often ask what my favourite animal is to check if things have changed. It’s still the little robin - a bird that says hope to me like no other.
